It’s farewell to Barbenheimer as both films finally dropped out of the top ten to make room for four new releases. Barbie has scraped past Spectre to reach sixth place in the all-time UK chart, while Oppenheimer has overtaken The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers to sit at number 29. Gareth Edwards’ well-received Disney science fiction action flick The Creator claimed this week’s top spot, ahead of Saw X. That said, the latest instalment of grisly hack’n’slash proved irresistible to gorehounds, enjoying the sixth highest opening of all ten films in the series. Not bad going for a franchise whose protagonist was killed off in Saw III. The reissued Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense claimed seventh place, while the fourth new release to bag a spot in the top ten was Ken Loach’s The Old Oak. Yep, they can kick Ken out of the Labour Party, but they can’t stop his loyal audience flocking to the arthouses.
