It was another bumper weekend for Tenet, which has now sailed past the £10m mark to become the seventh biggest hit of the year. But while cinema managers are overjoyed to see punters flooding back, closer inspection of the figures reveals that they’re only really coming to see Christoper Nolan’s mind-bender, which currently accounts for around 70% of all takings. The biggest new release, The New Mutants, had a pretty soft opening by X-Men standards. What’s more, £200,000 of its £700,000-ish opening ‘weekend’ came from last week’s preview screenings. Further down the chart, kiddie animation 100% Wolf became the third post-lockdown release to take more than £1m and the reissue of Black Panther enjoyed a further boost after the tragic death of its star Chadwick Boseman.
