There’s just one story this week. Around two-thirds of those who bought cinema tickets at the weekend went to see the new adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. With more than £10m in the kitty, this enjoyed the all-time biggest opening for a horror movie at the UK box office. It also deposed Bridget Jones’s Baby to become the biggest September opener of all time. The only other new release to make any impression was Wind River. Buoyed by strong reviews, this did well enough on a limited number of screens to bag sixth place. Holding firm at number three, Dunkirk continues to crawl up the all-time UK top 20. It’s now in 19th place and closing rapidly on Casino Royale. Outside the top ten, much-acclaimed gay romance God’s Own Country is doing extraordinarily well on a tiddly number of screens, taking more than £400,000 in just two weeks. That’s twice as much as the much-hyped Patti Cake$.
