BP Big Screens returns to Bristol for Summer 2018
Fancy some proper-job kulchur for free? Notoriously, it costs an arm and a leg to see world-class opera and ballet at Covent Garden. But the Royal Opera House continues to beam productions live by satellite to venues around the country each year, absolutely free of charge, under the BP Big Screens banner.
This summer the commendable initiative returns to Millennium Square to bring culture to the masses with a trio of events. First up, on June 12 you can see Liam Scarlett’s new production of Swan Lake for the Royal Ballet. A fortnight later, on June 26, it’s the first revival of Richard Jones’s production of Puccini’s romantic opera, La boheme. Finally, on July 12, that rascally seducer Don Giovanni gets his come-uppance once again.
As usual, you’re invited to bring a blanket and a picnic to all these screenings, which kick off at 7pm (Swan Lake, La boheme) and 6.30pm (Don Giovanni), with the main event starting 30 minutes later. Full conditions of entry can be found here.
