Nomadland
Frances McDormand stars in a fact-based, Oscar-winning drama about a baby boomer nomad
Industry research suggests that a visit to the cinema is among the top three post-lockdown treats that people are looking forward to. We’ll find out whether that’s true on Monday 17 May, when most of Bristol’s cinemas are expected to throw open their doors. Among the films intended to entice you back are Godzilla vs Kong, a slew of family flicks and all this year’s big Oscar winners.

Two chains, Vue and Showcase, have already put tickets on sale. Others are expected to follow suit. Only three Bristol cinemas – the Odeon, Cineworld and Cube – have remained closed ever since the first lockdown began back in March 2020.
For once there’ll be no shortage of new releases to gorge on, with three years’ worth of films due to open in the next 18 months. These include Top Gun: Maverick and, notoriously, No Time to Die.
