Bristolian film student releases short film about the mental effects of self-isolation
Bored with the Groundhog Day rituals of lockdown? So is Bristolian film student Ewan French, who decided to make a surreal short film on the subject in his own home with a cast of one: his brother Joey. Isolation is about, well, isolation “and how the monotony of it can make the best of us go insane”.

Ewan made his first short, the award-winning Belief, at the age of 17. Inspired by his grief at the loss of his grandfather, this was premiered at St. Mary Redcliffe Church, where much of the film was shot, back in 2017.

He followed this with his first feature, Fantasy, co-directed with his friend Gurpreet Singh, which received its premiere at the Bristol Odeon last March.

Next up for the young writer/director/musician is another short film (“I can’t reveal the title right now, but it is my best work yet”) for which he’s currently composing the soundtrack: “I am really passionate about music and marrying it with vision, so I am investing my creativity and time into making sure the soundtrack and the short film are the best they can be.”
