Bristol’s LGBTQIA+ film fest stages a fundraiser
Bristol’s Palace International Film Festival is staging a takeover of the Loco Club to raise cash for its 2023 edition. Titled Pleural, this promises a deep immersion in the queer world of virtual reality, DJs, performances, AV installations, ‘gayming’, and, of course, cinema.
The event, which takes place on Friday 1 July, is spanned across three rooms. Room one has DJ sets from Princess Koko, Diessa, Satin de Compostela, Pet Bitch and Orderly Room. In room two, you’ll find installations by Marcin Gawin, Marie Dutton and Azaria Flynn.
Room three is the cinema, screening highlights from the festival’s 2021 animation and shorts programme. These provocative and often very funny films range from charcoal animation Acceptable Face, which celebrates the joys of refusing to conform, to Through Darcelle’s Eyes: a portrait of the world’s oldest performing drag queen.
is needed now More than ever
But why ‘Pleural’? Well, the night “takes its name from the fluid between the membranes covering human lungs, a lubricant to allow breathing,” producer Harry Silverlock tells us. “With its homophone ‘plural’ also pointing to multiplicity, this club night aims to both lubricate new connections and bring out queerness’ radical potential by focusing on the body’s between-spaces.”
