Bristol’s week in film: coronavirus update
Now that Clevedon’s plucky Curzon has finally bowed to the inevitable and shut its doors for the time being, all cinemas in our area are currently closed. Many are planning online content to tide us over. We’ll keep you posted on that as news emerges.
In the meantime, what’s happening to those films you planned to see over the coming weeks? The picture isn’t entirely clear right now, but many multiplex releases and virtually all event cinema screenings have been postponed until later in the year and beyond. These include the big Royal Albert Hall premiere broadcast of David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, which was scheduled for April 16. The most dramatic example is Exhibition on Screen’s Easter in Art, which has now been postponed until … wait for it … Easter 2021. Several arthouse releases, meanwhile, are being released online only. In an unprecedented move, so too are big movies that were still showing in cinemas until a few days ago, including Emma, The Invisible Man, Birds of Prey and The Hunt. Here’s what we know about everything that was scheduled for release up until April 10.
