Bristol’s week in film: October 16-22 2020

It might be looking pretty grim for the cinema industry nationally. But while cinemas are closing across the country, things are looking a little more rosy around here as we have another reopening to report. Yep, it’s a big welcome back to Clevedon’s historic Curzon cinema. Go here for our news story about the restoration of the grand old place. You’ll find the full Curzon programme below.

It’s also worth noting that while the Vue chain has closed a quarter of its cinemas for three days a week in response to distributors pulling many of their big releases, the Vues at Cribbs Causeway and Longwell Green are not affected and are open as usual.

This week’s big release is the I Am Greta documentary. This is also screened on Sunday with a cinema-exclusive Q&A. If that’s not enough Greta for you, she will also be in conversation with David Attenborough at this year’s first virtual Wildscreen Festival at 7pm on Tuesday. Go here for the programme.

Head on down to the Everyman if you want to catch Ben Wheatley’s Rebecca on the big screen before it’s streamed by Netflix. Family animation Over the Moon is another Netflix production, but it’s showing at the Showcase Avonmeads this week.

We have plenty of previews too, including Liam Neeson’s latest vengenace flick Honest Thief and more from the London Film Festival – notably the closing film, Ammonite.
