Bristol Film Festival: Airplane!
Classic comedy, aptly screened beneath Concorde at Aerospace Bristol
Now in its third year, the Bristol Film Festival bills itself as “the UK’s largest immersive film festival”. A bold claim? Well, consider the facts. Over the next 12 months, festival director Owen Franklin and his team have got more than 80 events planned. These are divided into four seasons. The full spring programme has just been unveiled.
This sees the festival returning to Redcliffe Caves for another batch of those ever-popular Underground Cinema screenings and Averys Wine Cellar for further boozy events. They’ve also forged some new partnerships. Comedy classic Airplane! is to be screened beneath Concorde at Aerospace Bristol. And the old cells beneath The Island – formerly Bridewell Police Station – is the apt setting for screenings of a series of law’n’order themed flicks, from Hot Fuzz to The Shawshank Redemption. These aren’t tiddly individual cells, by the way, but reasonably spacious holding cells for groups of people. (Let’s just say your correspondent once spent an evening there when it was still a nick and leave it at that, eh?)
Other venues include Bristol Cathedral, the RWA, Porsche Centre, Fowlers Motorcycle Showroom and The Station. There are a couple of events in February, but most take place in March. Be warned that BFF events tend to sell out very quickly, so you’d be advised to grab tickets ASAP. You’ll find the full programme below.
