Free ballet screening in Millennium Square
The big screen returns to Bristol’s Millennium Square on Tuesday September 22 for a free live satellite broadcast of Romeo and Juliet from Covent Garden. Kenneth MacMillan’s ballet was premiered at the Royal Opera House in 1965 and has been a staple of the Royal Ballet repertoire ever since, clocking up more than 400 performances. It’s an evergreen treat for hoofing newcomers and aficionados of 20th century ballet alike, skilfully matching Prokofiev’s score to the bard’s timeless tale of star-crossed lovers.
Inaugurated in 1987, BP Big Screens is organised in partnership with the Royal Opera House and has become a huge success. Last year, more than 47,000 people attended live satellite relays at venues across the country, which included screenings of La Boheme and Rigoletto in Millennium Square. This year, the BP Big Screen is visiting 21 locations across the UK.
