‘Interactive experience’ comes to Vue Cribbs Causeway
The Vue Cribbs Causeway is one of just eight cinemas selected to screen what’s being billed as “the world’s first mobile-interactive film” in April. The over-excited PR blurb also describes Late Shift as “the next generation of immersive film experience”, which, as those with memories longer than a couple of years will recall, is a phrase that was previously used to describe 3D. Nobody mentions that very often these days.
So what’s it all about? Well, Late Shift is a crime thriller about a young student who has to prove his innocence after being forced into the robbery of a London auction house. So far, so conventional. But the film has one beginning, ‘countless’ potential storylines, and seven endings.
So what are you actually going to get in this “world beyond cinema”? Using the free interactive movie app on your smartphone, you, the lucky punter, get to decide how the protagonist reacts to different situations, rather than leaving the filmmakers to do all the work. The film continues to run seamlessly while the majority vote shapes the direction it takes.
is needed now More than ever
Will this be the next big thing in cinema? Or will you tire of having your evening’s entertainment dictated by the guffawing morons sitting next to you sharing a family-sized bucket of popcorn? In the spirit of interactive entertainment, we’ll leave you to decide that for yourself.
Late Shift screens at the Vue Cribbs Causeway on Thursday, April 6, at 8.30pm. Go here for tickets.
