Local war poet film to be screened in Bristol, with introduction and talk

By Robin Askew  Tuesday Oct 4, 2022

Following the success of recent screenings of the locally made Hannah More biopic at the Orpheus Cinema, another Redcliffe Films production is now to be shown at the same venue.

Docu-drama Severn and Somme: The Life of Ivor Gurney tells the story of the Gloucestershire country boy who survived the trenches of WWI to become an acclaimed war poet and composer, but was so traumatised by his experiences that he ended his days in a psychiatric hospital.

Robin Haward will introduce the event and read a poem, while Richard Hope Hawkins will give a talk on the Battle of Fromelles. Go here for tickets, £1 from the sale of each will be donated to the Parkinson’s Disease Society. Meanwhile, there’s another screening of Hannah More at the Orpheus, as part of the cinema’s Silver Screen series on Tuesday 25 October.
