Previews announced of two eagerly anticipated new films
Want to see the new musical version of The Color Purple before everyone else? Well, thanks to black cinema champions We Are Parable, you can do just that. And it won’t cost you a penny. But hurry – tickets are limited for the screening at the Bristol Everyman cinema on Monday 22 January, starting at 8:15pm. Go here to apply for yours.
We Are Parable have also teamed up with Cables & Cameras for a preview of the eagerly anticipated American Fiction at the Watershed on Tuesday 30 January.
Adapted from Percival Everett’s 2001 novel Erasure, Cord Jefferson’s timely satire mocks narrow white expectations of black literature as ‘trauma narratives’ riding the wave of social justice movements. Jeffrey Wright stars as a disillusioned academic who cynically writes a novel that panders to all the cliches of black suffering, only to find that literature’s white gatekeepers not only take the bait but propel it to hit status, attracting the attentions of a Hollywood producer (Adam Brody).
