Slapstick lures younger audience with YouTube star’s ‘Stranger Films’ event
In partnership with the BFI, Bristol’s Slapstick Festival of classic and silent comedy is making a bid for a younger audience with its spin-off Stranger Films event.

Alasdair Beckett-King
Stand-up comedian, animator and video games writer Alasdair Beckett-King – named by Rolling Stone magazine as an unmissable act at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe, a favourite on Mock the Week and a YouTube star with more than 250K followers – will be presenting clips and films by eccentric pioneers of early silent comedy. Expect to see dancing pigs and Laurel and Hardy fighting a crab, among other delights.
Stranger Films takes place in the Room Above Theatre, upstairs at the White Bear Pub on St. Michaels Hill, on Saturday 12 November at 7pm and 9pm. The pub will also be joining in with some strangeness of its own. Heavily discounted tickets are available to those under 30 and are on sale now here.
