Tickets now available for new free Cary Grant walk in Bristol
In partnership with the Show of Strength Theatre Company and as part of the Being Human Festival, the Cary Comes Home Festival has just launched a brand new walking tour of Cary Grant’s Bristol, entitled Raising Cary Grant – The Bristol Footsteps of Archie Leach. The one-and-a-half hour walk, which begins at the Cary Grant statue in Millennium Square and ends at Castle Park, is billed as using “the magic of immersive storytelling, language and location to uncover the gripping tale of how Archie Leach of Horfield, Bristol would go on to become the iconic and world-famous movie star, Cary Grant.” Tickets are free, but must be booked in advance here.
Interest in Bristol’s biggest star is certain to be boosted in November with the broadcast on ITVX of Jeff Pope’s eagerly anticipated four-part drama series Archie, with Jason Isaacs as Cary Grant and Harriet Walter as his mum, Elsie. Rather disappointingly, although much of this is set in Bristol it was actually filmed in Liverpool. The transmission dates have yet to be officially confirmed, but we hear it’s likely to be available from November 23.
Although the Cary Comes Home Festival is officially resting this year, there are still a number of Archie-related events to look forward to, including the Cole Porter biopic Night and Day, which is being shown at St. Mary Redcliffe Church on Sunday 21 October. Tickets are available on a ‘pay what you can afford’ sliding scale. Go here for more information.

The previously announced date for the online You’re the Tops: The Making of Night and Day event with Professor Mark Glancy (Queen Mary University London) and Dr Kathrina Glitre (UWE Bristol) was incorrect. This actually takes place on Tuesday 17 October. Free tickets are available here.
