Watershed changes prices for first time since pandemic

By Harri Knight Davis  Thursday Apr 6, 2023

Watershed cinema has announced it will change its cinema ticket prices for the first time for over three years on Friday.

Under the proposed changes, a booking fee of 12 per cent will be added to online ticket sales.

A spokesperson for Watershed said the fee will cover “some of the staffing, credit card and technology costs required to process your ticket purchase.”

Regular adult matinee ticket will now cost £9.52 when booked online or on the phone, and an evening ticket will now cost £12.32 when the online booking fee is added.

Ticket prices for speciality or one-off events will also be increased, including concession prices, and an increase in the minimum age for senior concessions from 60 to 66, to align with state pension.

The base price of tickets will remain the same however, including the £5 price for under-24 tickets, which will not include a booking fee.

Tickets bought at Watershed’s in house box office will not be affected by the booking fee charge.

In a statement on their website, a spokesperson for the Watershed said: “Part of our values and mission is to make our cultural cinema programme accessible to as many people as possible and continue to pay our staff a real living wage.

“Whilst it is essential that we now make some changes to help us mitigate rising costs, we have tried to make these as fair as possible, with a variable booking fee depending on the ticket price.

“We are proud to be a cultural cinema that offers a £5.00 ticket price for people under 24 years old at any time of day and these can still be purchased for £5.00 at the Box Office.

“However, increasing utilities costs, the rises in the cost of living and the continued impact of the pandemic have now made it necessary to make a few adjustments to our ticket pricing and to introduce a booking fee.”
