Watershed to screen A Fantastic Woman and panel discussion
Watershed will be screening A Fantastic Woman alongside hosting a panel discussion with Jo Bligh, Cheryl Morgan, Shon Faye, and Yaz Brien on trans visibility.
Chilean director Sebastián Lelio follows up his 2013 hit Gloria with this critically acclaimed picture about a young transgender woman struggling to live with the loss of her partner and the prejudice she suffers.

What’s more, the 5:30pm screening on March 3 will be followed by a panel discussion on modern media representation of the transgender community.

The panel welcomes a mix of writers, artists, campaigners which includes Cheryl Morgan – a writer and educator who co-organises Bristol LGBT History Month, Jo Blight – artistic director of Thorny which is a Bristol-based organisation that hosts artist-led events for underrepresented voices, and Yaz Brien – a queer feminist organiser and Ujima Radio presenter.
The film follows Marina (Daniela Vega) after her partner dies. While struggling with her grief, she is treated with suspicion by the police, and forced to deal with the callous reactions of her dead partner’s family.
The film will be shown at Watershed for the week from March 2 until March 8.
