1020 Radio to cease broadcasting at the end of the month
1020 Radio have announced its closure after eight years of on the air.
The local radio station have blamed ongoing rising costs as well as being “another casualty of covid”.
The 1020 Radio team said: “We’ve made the difficult decision to close our studio and cease broadcasting after almost 8 years.

“As many of you know the last few years have been very difficult for many small businesses, and unfortunately we are another casualty of covid and ongoing rising costs.
“May 28th 2023 will be our final day of broadcasting. Over the next month there will be a bunch of shows to send off the station and a closing party that you are all welcome to (more info to come!).
“From all the team at 1020 Radio it has been a pleasure and an incredible experience for us over the last 8 years. We are truly gutted to be informing you all of this news.
“We want to give a big shout-out to everyone who’s contributed, listened, supported, and partied with us over the past 8 years. You’ve all made it an unforgettable journey, and we’re forever grateful for your support.”

A well-loved radio station that is one of the best places to find emerging talent in the city, 1020 Radio is the second local station to close.
It was announced last year that SWU.FM were to cease broadcasting due to risings costs and huge energy bills.
1020 Radio will have their final show on May 28.
