A capella group raises money for north Bristol’s NHS charity
An a capella group has recorded a cover of Lean On Me by Bill Withers to raise money for Southmead Hospital Charity.
The Tonic, with a dozen members living across Bristol, released the video on social media and have set up a fundraising page to raise money for the official charity for North Bristol NHS Trust.
Money raised for the Southmead Hospital Charity’s Coronavirus Appeal will support NHS staff in north Bristol by providing care and welfare packages, as well as funding access to specialist counselling and psychotherapy support.
is needed now More than ever
The charity’s coronavirus appeal is also providing financial support to the bereaved families of staff who have lose their lives to the disease while working on the front line.
“This cause is especially close to our hearts as we have members in the band who currently work or have worked for the NHS, including a midwife and a child and adolescent mental health professional,” says Steve Mundey, a member of The Tonic.
“We’re really pleased that so many people have enjoyed it so far and have donated to our fundraising page – it’s a song that has an important message for us all right now, so it is particularly poignant for people.”
The Tonic have supported Southmead Hospital Charity in the past, performing at the organisation’s busking events.
The coronavirus song was in memory of Tom May, brother of bass Carl. It was arranged by Wendy Sergeant, with the video edited by Sarah Kelly.
“A big thank you to The Tonic for showing their support for the staff at North Bristol NHS Trust in such a moving and thoughtful way,” says the director of the charity, Sarah Harrison. “The hospital and members of staff tell us how much they appreciate this support at this difficult time.”
