A New Song For Bristol – Revolution

By Lowie Trevena  Wednesday May 19, 2021

The first of six New Songs For Bristol has been created by three artists who are part of Home Grown Heat, Bristol Beacon’s artist development scheme, and Bristol-born Javeon.

Kwasi, a rapper, X4, a 19-year-old artist and producer who takes inspiration from reggae, hip-hop, RnB and drum and bass, and CVNCH, a rap and grime artist, worked with Javeon to make Revolution.

“The inspiration for the track was my life growing up, from my perspective,” says Kwasi, who is from Bristol.

“Everyone see’s different sides of Bristol but when someone asks me to rap about it, I’m compelled to tell my story the way I see it as gritty as it may be, I just want to keep it genuine and represent my experience.”

Javeon, who has worked with the likes of Tory Lanez, Clean Bandit and Saya, worked with the three artists to establish lyrical content, structure and instrumentation, with the Home Grown Heat musicians taking to lead to bring the song to life.

Artist development scheme Home Grown Heat supports emerging underground artists to progress their careers through bespoke packages of mentorship, support and guidance from industry professionals. Kwasi, X4 and CVNCH knew each other from the scheme and say it was “a lot of fun” to create the new track.

“I knew that we would create something inspiring that we would all be happy with, but I am completely blown by how they were all able to produce such a professional piece of art within the time we had and also not being in the same room,” says Javeon.

“The finished track definitely has the quality and the conveyed message that I was hoping, but the style and unity of these three artists really takes this track to the next level for me.”

Revolution can be listened to now.
