Bristol has long been a city of culture and there are venues across the city which open it’s arms to those who want to try out their sound in front of a crowd or want to gain confidence and feedback to some of their lyrics.
We’ve put together a list of places where you can go to get out of your comfort zone and try something new!

Open Decks
Rough Trade
Announced back in June 2022, Rough Trade now hosts a new event series, Sunday Open Decks, inviting experienced and non-experienced DJs alike to perform at the shop in the coming Sundays.

Full Spectrum at To The Moon and The Plough
Full Spectrum is the drum and bass collective from two friends, Ffi and Kate. They host open deck nights at To The Moon on Old Market and at the bigger venue, The Plough in Easton.
They have just announced a new series, Full Spectrum Friends & Family, so keep an eye on their socials to stay up to date with when and where you can get involved.
Open Mic
Mr Wolfs
Mr Wolfs hosts open mic nights every Monday where all performers and abilities are welcome to take to the stage. The night kicks off at 9pm but get there early to reserve a spot!
The venue also hosts The Donut Filler, held every Wednesday, it’s a live jam sessions, open to all musicians willing to perform in an open setting. Just tune up on the night and backline will be provided.
The Gallimaufry
Another open mic night hosted on a Monday, Mike Dennis hosts the evening at The Gallimaufry. The stage is open to performers, poets, spoken word artists and everything in between.
Be sure to get there from 8pm to sign up and from 9pm to enjoy the acts from the audience!
The Hen & Chicken
Every first Wednesday of the month, Sarah Larkham and Elliot Hall welcome all musicians to the stage at The Hen & Chicken.

The Cloak and Dagger
Another venue favourite on Cheltenham Road, The Cloak and Dagger opens their space up to everyone, from musicians to comedians, spoken word and jam sessions, you’re welcome to come along and get involved.
Entry is free but any donations will be going towards soundproofing the venue.
Other venues offering people the chance to flex their creative muscles include The Crown, which hosts USB, the open decks and open mic night combined. Every Monday from 10pm to 3am, producers and vocalists are encourgaed to come along. And don’t forget to bring your USB!
