Boofuckinghoo: The anonymous hip hop duo shining a light on knife crime
Boofuckinghoo (or BFH for a more PG term) are a brand new hip hop project, comprised of two anonymous individuals based in north east Bristol.
Drawing on their combined experience of over 30 years creating music, with roots in grime, triphop ambient and progressive rock music, the project brings a fresh sound encompassing these styles.
Self taught on drums, guitar bass and live looping and scoring music for film and media, the artist’s experience in the music industry comes from growing up listening to a range of genres and artists.
is needed now More than ever
“Music ranging from grime, hip hop, reggae and oldshool classics to electronic bass music & experimental rock,” they tell Bristol24/7.
“Some more recently to name would be Aphex Twin, Converge, Dizzie Rascal, Devlin, The Grime Scene, Split Prophets, Datkid and the Bristol UK hip hop community.”
The duo have extensive experience working with young people from Bristol who are involved in gangs and knife crime.
BFH released their debut EP on November 25 with a live set to celebrate the release at Grounded in Fishponds on the same day.
The EP is based around the themes the two artists see in their work with young people; anti knife crime, anti gang and gang affiliated activities. Why are these topics so important to BFH?
“They’re important to us as growing up in the city of Bristol we have seen both perspectives and realise the detrimental impact negative social conditioning has on our communities,” the duo explain.
“The impact of grievance, hard drugs, mental health and gang mentality have on the community. The knock on effect ruins lives and makes us worry about our children’s futures.”
Intertwining art with politics is important for the hip hop outfit who capture reality in their music, shining a light on important subjects that need to be said and need to be heard.
“We think true art is an expression which comes from the soul through a lived experience and the politics comes after once we reflect on it as an opinion, we think peoples perspectives ‘politics’ are captured within music, I will leave that one with the reader.”
BFH promises that the four track EP is the just the beginning as they look toward creating an album and also have a music video in the pipeline for their track Demons, which will be filmed by Bristol legend SektionRed.
2024 promises to be a bright, promising and interesting year for the exciting duo.
