Brisfest Soundscape highlights, part 4
On Saturday, July 30 Brisfest returns in a brand new, multi-venue format.
We’re particularly excited here at Bristol24/7 because this year we’re programming the main stage. Unfolding outside (and later inside) The Station, our ‘Best of Bristol’ lineup represents the past, present and future of the city’s underground music scene from indie rock to hip-hop, electronica and bass music.
GotSome
Who Cares residents GotSome make grimy, bass heavy house music that’s perfect fuel for festival sound systems. They’ve worked with grime godfather Wiley and have won the support of tastemakers like Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Toddla T.
Giant Swan
Half of The Naturals – who were sadly unavailable to play Brisfest this year – Giant Swan have built a cult following of their own thanks to their fierce, improvised live shows. Somewhere between industrial techno and experimental guitar music, their sound isn’t for the faint hearted but then nothing worth hearing ever is.
Contraband Breaks Ensemble
Fronted by party starting MC Troy Da Hybrid Brown, Contraband revisit the breaks sampled on classic hip-hop tunes and use them as the building blocks of their own improvised funk jams. They’re great musicians and one of the best party bands in Bristol right now. Every city should have one.
See the website again tomorrow for the last of our festival picks.
