Bristol band Spectres perform full album
Bristol band, Spectres release their second album Condition March 10 and will be performing the whole piece of works at The Cube, Saturday March 4. This will be a showcase that goes the extra mile with the film screen brought to the front of the stage, band situated behind, with a full AV projection light show being projected onto it.
This will take atmospheric sounds to a new level with the band preparing a very special night to present this album, louder and more abrasive than the last. “There were discussions about experimenting with electronics, but the idea soon petered out when we realised we still wanted to experiment with guitars,” reveals singer and guitarist Joe Hatt. It’s true that a track such as ‘End Waltz’ has a relentlessly pounding, almost techno structure, in contrast to the kinetosis-inducing dirge of ‘Dissolve’ – the first single from the album which appeared as an edible tablet download with a suitably stomach-churning video late last year.
We got the band to answer some Quickfire Questions ahead of their upcoming gig…
is needed now More than ever
Which artists are inspiring you right now?
Giant Swan, Mica Levi, Girl Band, Moor Mother, Metz, Arthur Russell.
What’s your favourite song to play?
Off the old record, Lump or This Purgatory, but I think it’s going to become Dissolve as we play it more. Tom Ravenscroft labelled it as ‘disgusting’ on 6 music and it’s lovely to be inside that song for 7 minutes.
Who are your major musical influences?
Sonic Youth, A Place To Bury Strangers, Mogwai.
What song do you pick to get ready for a night out?
Glaze by Container
What have you got coming up?
We’ve got our second album ‘Condition’ coming out on 10th March, with us doing a scarily elaborate launch show at The Cube, March 4. We then have a month long UK and EU tour which should probably kill us so anything after that will be a bonus.
