Bristol Folk Festival announce music lineup

By Issy Packer  Monday Apr 4, 2022

Kate Rusby, Jon Boden and Kitty Macfarlane are among the names announced for this year’s festival. Kate Rusby will be headlining the opening night at Clifton Cathedral with her virtuoso band and joining her will be O’Hooley & Tidow. The duo has gained widespread recognition since their song Gentleman Jack was the closing song for Sally Wainwright’s BBC drama series.

Jon Boden and his new group The Remnant Strings will be headlining on the Saturday at St. George’s Bristol. Alongside him on Saturday’s lineup is Senegalese artist Amadou Diagne, Medicine Creek featuring Nuala Honan, and Granny’s Attic. Closing the weekend festival will be Somerset native Kitty Macfarlane.

Held over the May Day weekend, Clifton Cathedral, St George’s Bristol, Bristol Folk House and The Architect are the main venues for the festival this year.

Dr Anna Rutherford Creative Director of Bristol Folk Festival said: “Folk music connects, tells our stories and binds us.

“After two tough years, we’re honoured to bring Kate Rusby and Jon Boden, the queen and king of UK folk, and a whole host of artists to a resurgent festival city and to be part of the recovery of live music.

“The calibre of artists programmed across Mayday weekend is astonishing – book for an old favourite, or better still, take a chance on something new!”
