Bristol Folk Festival returns this weekend
The newly renovated St George’s Bristol comes to life with music, swords, morris and merriment this Sunday as folk spills out from the main hall and into the bar, terraces, nooks and crannies of the magnificent venue.
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a musician? Peter Lord, creator of Morph (Aardman Animations), will be asking just that as the festival hosts a series of public artist interviews at St George’s on the Sunday.
Bristol24/7 takes you behind the music with a public lunchtime interview with festival headliner and multiple BBC folk Award winner, Cara Dillon. Meanwhile in the afternoon, fRoots editor Ian Anderson has curated a free micro-concert and interview with the ‘NewWave of Folk Blokes’ – Jimmy Aldridge, Sid Goldsmith, Thom Anderson, Nick Hart and Jon Wilks.

Families and music fans are welcome to drop into St George’s from midday where they’ll find free lunchtime music in the café-bar spanning Eurobal (French, Breton and Scandinavian tunes) and an Irish showcase. Keep an eye out for swords in the afternoon, as rapper crew Locksided, and city clickers bring lively dance into the St George’s festivities.
Sunday at St George’s is the culmination of folk festivities happening across the city over the weekend, as Bristol marks its return to the world folk stage. Bristolians can grab day or weekend tickets for the main stage sets from artists including Kris Drever (Lau), Cara Dillon, Lady Maisery, Grace Petrie, Amadou Diagne, Rachel Dadd and Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys or dip their toe into a lively free festival fringe.

Over the weekend there’s plenty to get involved with. Bring the kids along to a scratch ceilidh in the street on Saturday afternoon just off Corn Street (Saint Stephen’s Church from 4.30 pm) or drop into the singarounds and late-night sessions at the Three Tuns pub in Hotwells.
Bristol Folk Festival is held across St George’s Bristol, Bristol Folk House and St Stephens Church from Fri 3rd – Sun 5th May.
