Bristol MC and songwriter wins BBC Radio 1 Dance award
It was announced over the weekend that the Bristol based artist, Gardna, won the BBC Radio 1 Mini Mix of the Year.
He was also nominated for Bass Track of the Year for his track R.A.V.E.A.S.A.P with MC DRS.
Gardna has been garnering critical attention since releasing his debut album in 2019 and then his sophomore album, Time and Space, in June this year.
is needed now More than ever
In September, he stepped in to host Danny Howards’ mini mix series, presenting tracks from Bristol’s rave culture, which is what won him the award.
He was also nominated as BBC Radio 1’s Future Artist of the Month October 2022.

Gardna found out he won at the BBC Studios on Friday night.
Fusing elements from across the sound system spectrum, including dub, grime, dancehall and DnB, Gardna bought his live sound to a sold out headline show at Trinity back in October with special guests Don Letts and Charli Tee.
“Still on an absolute high from Friday night. This one’s for Bristol!”, Gardna tells Bristol24/7. “I love my city and when I was asked to do the mix for Danny Howard, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
“Shout out to all the artists who recorded dubs, gave us unreleased VIPs , instrumentals and stems of the tracks we included in those 5 minutes, all 20+ tracks are out of our amazing city.
“Me and KREED put our soul into this one, and we do it for moments like when Pete Tong says this mix should be up in a museum somewhere live on air. How mint! Many thanks to the amazing artists involved in this mix.”
The MC, lyricist, host and promoter is on the up and up.
