Bristol to host first ever Firebird Festival

By Laura Williams  Monday Jun 29, 2015

Bristol recording studio newcomer Firebird Studios is already making waves on the local music scene and is upping its game with a one day festival to mark its first birthday this summer.

Firebird Studios in Brislington will open its doors for freeon Sunday 5 July from noon for an afternoon/evening full of live music as well as offering visitors a chance to look around the studios. Acts confirmed include Why We Love, Forgery Lit and Aaron Douglas among others. There will also be food on sale from The Market Kitchen, booze from the Firebird brewing company (happy accident!) and even massage.

Charlie and Naomi Evans who opened the studios last July and have spent the past year doing it up. “We’ve been getting bits and pieces for it, such as a proper coffee machine,” said Charlie. “And trying to create a bright and friendly place to make music. Being musicians ourselves and having rehearsed in a lot of fairly horrible places, we wanted to break the mould of dark and dingy rehearsal studios that aren’t very inspiring to play in.

Charlie, who is in the band Light Falls Forward with wife Naomi, said: “We wanted people to really enjoy the space, get good sound and feel inspired to create here and so far, we seem to be doing the right thing as we get a lot of compliments about how the rooms sound, the equipment available to hire and the general vibe of the place.”

The festival will include a room dedicated to jamming where musicians can pop in and join whoever is playing and we will have other local music businesses on hand to showcase their products. Lindo Guitars, Mark Ireland Pianos and Enlightened Lighting will all be taking over rooms in the studio to show people what they have to offer.  Photographer Nick Clark and video makers Push the Button will be along for the day taking snaps and shooting video. They are recent partners with the studios, which is becoming a one-stop shop for local musicians.
