Celebrate International Women’s Day with Open Collab

By Safiya Bashir  Monday Mar 8, 2021

Bedminster based jazz musicians Charlie + Jake will be hosting their next Open Collab event focusing on International Women’s Day.

Inviting you virtually into their cosy home studio, you can join hundreds of people all over the world and listen to music and poetry from Canada, America, Mexico and Australia as well as a strong presence from the thriving spoken word scene in Bristol.

The show, which will be raising money for Womankind – Bristol Women’s Therapy Centre, promises to be uplifting and provide creativity and collaboration during this time of separation.

Starting their shows in April 2020, Charlie + Jake improvise music, song and soundscape around poetry performances sent from all over the world. And to celebrate International Women’s Day, they’ll be involving dance too.

The show, held online on March 27, will offer poetry, music and dance from artists all over the world including a very special performance from Bristol-based go-go dancers, The GoGets.

As well as coming together to hear from others, you also have the opportunity to submit your own poetry about your own experience of womanhood or about an inspiring woman in your life.

The Open Collab event for International Women’s Day will be on March 20 at 9pm. To find out more, or to submit your own poetry for the event, head to www.opencollab.co.uk.
