City of Bristol Brass Band cover the Wallace & Gromit theme tune

By Lowie Trevena  Wednesday Apr 22, 2020

The City of Bristol Brass Band have covered the Wallace & Gromit theme tune to help bring joy to the sickest children, their families and the staff at the Bristol Children’s Hospital during the coronavirus pandemic.

Recorded in each member of the band’s home, The Grand Appeal, the dedicated charity for the hospital, has now arranged for the video to be distributed to all patients and staff in the Women’s and Children’s Division.

Plans for the video began when Steve Ellis, the band’s chairman, reached out to Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, to ask if the uplifting music could help raise awareness of the challenges that face sick babies and children across the South West, as well as put a smile on people’s faces during the pandemic.

“The band have been a part of our fundraising family since 2012, so we’re delighted to hear from them again,” say the charity. “Steve, the chairman of the band, hopes their performance will spread joy to patients, families and staff at Bristol Children’s Hospital and we couldn’t agree more!”

As a result of lockdown, The Grand Appeal charity has seen its income plummet at the same time the coronavirus pandemic is putting exceptional demand on the charity’s services.

The strain has been especially felt by family support workers and The Grand Appeal’s three family accommodation buildings – Paul’s House, Grand Appeal House and Cots for Tots House.

The hope is that this fun rendition can put a smile on everyone’s face, from front line staff to poorly children.
