Creative lockdown: Charlie + Jake

By Lowie Trevena  Tuesday Apr 14, 2020

Charlie + Jake are part of the ongoing Bristol24/7 Creative Lockdown series, showcasing how people in Bristol have been getting arty under lockdown.

Charlie + Jake, a jazz duo based in Bedminster, are hosting a living room live stream concert every week on their YouTube channel.

One of the weekly live streams, which take place on a Saturday at 7pm, will be a monthly evening of music and poetry which called Echoes and Edges: Open Collab.

“The idea is simple,” says the duo. “You send in a recording of your poetry, we press play and respond to the poem with music, soundscape and song.

“We’ve got a super cute little home studio with instruments everywhere, so we’ll reach for the instrument that inspires us and create a musical world for your poem to live in.”

Charlie + Jake recently released an album of music and poetry collaborations with three poets local to Bristol: David Punter, Gillie Harries and Tim Vosper.

“In this time of separation, we feel strongly that we want to be a part of something creative and collaborative,” say Charlie + Jake. “One day, we hope to create a real life version of the event.

“Bristol is full of creativity of course, so a night of improvised music and live collaboration with spoken word is a very exciting idea for us!”
