Creative lockdown: Dark Alchemy
Dark Alchemy are part of the ongoing Bristol24/7 Creative Lockdown series, showcasing how people in Bristol have been getting arty under lockdown.
Ordinarily, Dark Alchemy is an independent event series promoting artists producing music in genres from industrial to dark wave, experimental to ritual.
During lockdown, the team behind the events, Tom Bush, Ellen Southern and Liz Muir, have created a set of collaborative audio collages, as “a visceral and disorientating” response to coronavirus.

Describing the project as “an attempt to comfort without sugar-coating”, Inner Circle is a collection of music, sound, field recordings and spoken word from artists that are already part of Dark Alchemy.

On their currently-suspended live events, Ellen says: “Our core events are held in unique spaces including crypts and churches, immersing audiences in the acoustics, aesthetic and atmosphere of each.
“The aim is create a dark musical alchemy: to hold open a ceremonial space for bringing distinctive musical elements together.”
Inner Circle creates the same ambience. Episode one features Satori, Dead Space Chamber Music, Tommy Creep, Thyark & Theskyisthinaspaperhere, resulting in an excellent lockdown equivalent of Dark Alchemy.
