Creative lockdown: Eliza Fyfe
Eliza Fyfe is part of the ongoing Bristol24/7 Creative Lockdown series, showcasing how people in Bristol have been getting arty under lockdown.
A new video of 55 people singing Bohemian Rhapsody via webcam has gone live.
The Choirantine, 55 people from across Bristol, is led by Eliza Fyfe, a professional singer and vocal and piano teacher from St Andrew’s.

The Choirantine is made up of people from a range of backgrounds: a mix of Eliza’s singing students, her community choir the Bristol Choir Brigade and BBC Bristol staff, self-titled The BBC Pips. There is even a special guest appearance from a singing celebrity.
Everyone in the video filmed themselves in week one of self-isolation and was produced remotely. Martin Elsbury, a choir member and friend of Eliza’s, edited the video.
“As this is a new collective inspired by the lockdown and how to keep yourself entertained and joyous during a very strange and dark time, I named it Choirantine for a positive spin on this madness,” says Eliza. “I know I’m a singing teacher and everything, but there wasn’t any actual tuition involved with this one.”
Eliza has more videos planned for the new collective, and is calling for other enthusiastic singers from Bristol to get involved as well.
“I am always inspired by the people I meet and the limitless possibilities with the voice. There are so many ways to be creative and connected by the simple act of singing.
“And it’s not about being a brilliant singer – it’s just about expressing and enjoying yourself – and pulling together, especially during times of hardship. I mean, I bet you can’t help singing along word for word and head-banging. Maybe a bit of air guitar too?”
