Elder Island on Turbo Island

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Jun 15, 2021

The billboard on Turbo Island is often given a makeover by graffiti artists but never before has an advert been designed with a bespoke adaptation.

Bristol band Elder Island have used the billboard to promote their new album, Swimming Static, as well as their gig at SWX in October.

Befitting the prime location on the infamous patch of land on the corner of Stokes Croft and Jamaica Street, the band have crossed out their own name on the advert, so Elder Island now reads as Turbo Island.

The Bristol-based trio made up of singer and cellist Katy Sargent, bassist and beats maker Luke Thornton, and guitarist David Havard formed at university.

A recent interview in Afterglow saw them described as “carving out a space in music through the blending of diverse genres and techniques in experimentation”.
