Factory Studios seeks young bands and DJs

By Tom McElveen  Tuesday Jul 3, 2018

Being a young musician can be a hazardous venture, with obstructions at every turn. Noise complaints from neighbours and parents alike can put a stop to any jamming progression in the garage. How are you supposed to refine your sound if you aren’t able to rehearse it?

Fortunately, Factory Studios in Barton Hill is giving away free mentoring, rehearsal space and recording time to 40 up-and-coming local bands and DJs. They are on the hunt for young bands and DJs aged between 16-18 to participate in this year’s MAS Records’ scheme, which provides emerging artists with a bridge into the music industry with patrons like Robert Plant and Underworld’s Karl Hyde.

40-up-and coming bands and DJs will receive the mentoring and rehearsal space they need

Based at Factory Studios, every band and DJ participating in the scheme will get around £3,000 of free services along with invaluable mentoring from music industry luminaries. Over the past ten years, MAS Records has set a number of bands on the road to success, securing contracts with major labels for Swim Deep, Deluka, Octane OK and many more.

The lucky bands and DJs will work with MAS Records, who have set several bands on the road to success

Factory Studios is the home of DJs like Eats Everything and Lord Leopard, as well as the studio of choice for Bristol acts like Massive Attack, Idles and George Ezra and touring bands including Skindred, PJ Harvey, Kurt Vile and Guy Garvey.

Factory Studios is now inviting applications from bands and DJs with initial auditions to be held in August.

“We’re delighted to be running the MAS Records scheme again,” said Leon Curry, co-director of Factory Studios. “The music industry has changed dramatically over the past decade and MAS now fills the role of a record label development department, offering promising young bands a route to success. We’re really looking forward to meeting this year’s intake.”

Musicians can apply for the scheme until July 15. Bands can apply here and DJs can apply here.
