Father and son star in new music video

By Martin Booth  Tuesday May 4, 2021

A deeply personal song about the struggles of growing up in a single parent household in Bristol in the 1980s is the latest release from Slowie and $H The Producer on the DeeOh7 label.

What Ya Know About? reflects a deeper, more introspective mood from the Bristol-based musical partners and long-term friends.

The accompanying video from Blue Hat Visuals features both Slowie, who lives in Kingswood, and his son, 11-year-old Eljay Slocombe.

Slowie told Bristol24/7: “What Ya Know About? is describing my upbringing in a single parent household in Easton in the 1980s.

“With the younger version of myself played by my son, I’m highlighting the struggles that a lot of families went through back then; not only from my own point of view, but also from a single parents’ view, and the struggles they found themselves in.

“As a child, you find yourself trying to hide these things, and I guess this tune really is about accepting that a lot of people went through this and is very relatable to a lot of different families’ situations.

“At the end of the track I talk about turning my life around – sending a message to people that might be in a similar situation that no matter what cards you have been dealt, you can turn things around into a positive too.”
