Foodie? Boozie? Foozie!
“Foozie is all about bringing a foodie and boozie element to events and parties.” Forget everything you know about brunch. Foozie and Motion have teamed up to create Bristol’s ultimate day party, Brunch 808 which is focussed towards bringing great street food and some of Bristol’s best DJs together to create a day party of feasting and dancing. March’s event kicked off with a 90’s special with music supplied by the Dutty Girls – this month the 24 Hour Garage Girls will be taking over.
Raving and eating don’t immediately sound like a match made in heaven so I checked in with the Foozie team to see what inspired this chain of outdoor events at Motion.
is needed now More than ever
“We started Brunch 808 in April 2016 and have been hosting these day raves in bars and restaurants across the city, covering various genres and themes. They’ve become so popular that we decided to take them to a bigger venue and offer street food instead of a sit-down meal. We started with a hip hop event and found that certain venues suited certain genres.
“We hosted a drum & bass brunch event in Cox & Baloney Tea Rooms, which was ridiculous! The place was full of people tucking into afternoon tea and drinking cocktails from teapots while dancing to pounding drum and bass. It was so good that the crowd actually chipped in their own money to keep the DJ playing for an extra hour, as they didn’t want it to end.”
Foozie are no doubt capitalising on the meal’s growing popularity, with a reported £73million spent on brunch by Brits in 2015, topping surveys as the millennials favourite for dining out – now including cocktails and dancing.
“We’ll have between 2-6 street food traders at each event, covering everything from Burgers to Gyoza and will change each time. You can get a food token included with your ticket, which you can exchange from any of the traders on the day – or just buy an entry ticket and come for the party. Bristol has some amazing street food, so we’re excited to showcase some of the best at these events.”
High quality food, entertainment and the potential for a reasonably early night has seen brunchers strap on their dancing shoes and adorn elasticated waistlines. “We’re excited to bring this relatively new concept to Bristol; where good food, awesome music and daytime hours combine to create a unique party experience. There’s some really successful brunch parties happening across Europe and we want to bring the same to Bristol. There’s actually lots of really good brunch raves across the UK and Europe. Brunch Electronic in Barcelona is amazing and exactly what we’re trying to bring to Bristol. We’re working on some big house and techno bookings for all day and night Brunch 808 in July.”
