Gloucester Road pub launches fundraiser in a bid to ‘hold on’ and stay afloat
A pub and music venue on Gloucester Road has launched a Crowdfunder in a bid to keep afloat.
The Golden Lion, a pub which, in normal times, hosts live music and events seven days a week, is raising £2,000 to “help pay the bills” while it’s shut.
“2020 has been a very tough year, we have been open for only half of it. Up until now we have managed, but the recent November lockdown and the prospect of reopening in tier two are making things very very uncomfortable,” say the Golden Lion team.
is needed now More than ever
“We are a live music venue and the restrictions placed upon us, have us on a knife edge.
“Hopefully we can open in some capacity soon, but until then the bills will keep stacking up, with very little help from the government.”
In less than 24 hours, almost £1,000 had been raised, with supporters saying they “can’t wait to visit” and “cannot wait for all of this to be over and we can come and dance the night away with everyone at the Golden Lion”.

The team at the pub-cum-venue are planning a special event as a thank you to those who donate to the Crowdfunder, saying: “When restrictions are fully lifted, we plan on throwing a huge, free, all day gig with as many bands and performers as time will allow.”
The Golden Lion team are asking bands to get in touch if they want to get involved with the event, which is planned for summer 2021.
