Hundreds of people join Dom Whiting as Drum & Bass on the Bike returns to Bristol

By Martin Booth  Sunday Mar 20, 2022

“It was a bit of a melee, I’m not going to lie,” exclaimed Dom Whiting to the crowd gathered at the Lloyds Amphitheatre as the city’s second Drum & Bass on the Bike came to an end.

“And we definitely shut down Bristol, that’s for sure!”

Hundreds of people joined the DJ on his five-and-a-half-mile ride through Bristol. Proceedings began on College Green before the musical peloton headed towards the Bearpit, around the Clifton Triangle, along Jamaica Street and Stokes Croft, and then back around the Bearpit and through the centre towards the Harbourside.

Whiting’s specially adapted tricycle allows him to cycle while mixing on his decks, all the while livestreaming – with his first trip to Bristol (with only around 20 accompanying cyclists) now watched more than one million times on YouTube.

Some other cyclists carried speakers either on their backs or on their own tricycles, with the music turned up a few decibels next to Turbo Island.

Blue and yellow flares showing solidarity with Ukraine were set off at various points during the afternoon.

Not reaching much more than an average speed of 5mph, the ride took around one hour 20 minutes; with Whiting promising that it will now become an annual event.
