Idles named as BBC 6 Music’s Album of the year

By Rhys Buchanan  Tuesday Nov 27, 2018

Idles have claimed the prestigious BBC 6 Music album of the year award for Joy As An Act Of Resistance.

They top the list of a hundred artists, beating off competition from Arctic Monkeys, Kamasi Washington, Low and many more.

They follow in the footsteps of previous winners such as Thundercat, Badbadnotgood and Sleaford Mods. Last year Idles placed a terrific fifth place for their debut full-length Brutalism.

Posting on Twitter the band said, “The dream continues; we are overjoyed with the accolade album of the year. It’s not often we sit back to bask in any successes we have felt but we promise to celebrate graciously at the end of a year fuelled by compassion for our audiences and the venues that have housed them.”

It was also good news for Bristol’s Beak> who also made it to seventh with their highly acclaimed third album >>>. Geoff Barrow told Bristol 24/7 recently that the album was taken very seriously despite them all doing different things:

“The way we create is slightly freer than nitpicking over hours of recorded audio which gives an added sense of fun. We’ve been in a band now for nearly ten years so it’s important to us to get it right.”

Idles meanwhile must be feeling on top of the world right now. After selling out shows across the globe they’ll be heading into 2019 with an undeniable sense of confidence.

Drummer John Beavis also recently scooped up a second place award for ‘Best Drummer In Rock Music’ from Music Radar.
