Idles reveal details of third album, ‘Ultra Mono’

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Jun 17, 2020

Idles have revealed that their highly anticipated third album will be released in September and be accompanied by several livestreamed gigs “from an iconic studio”.

Ultra Mono is due out on September 25 via Partisan Records, with the three unique performances taking place at the end of August.

As well as announcing their new album, Idles also unveiled a new single, Grounds, with its music video seeing frontman Joe Talbot taking a drive around south Bristol.

Look out for St John’s Lane, the Novers Steps and some familiar Bedminster locations in the video, directed by Rob French:

“We wanted to write a song that embodied self-belief, and gave us self-belief – a counter-punch to all the doubt we build up from all the noise we so easily let in,” said Talbot about Grounds, the second track on Ultra Mono.

“We wanted to make the sound of our own hearts’ marching band, armed with a jack hammer and a smile. We wanted to make the sound of our engine starting. So we did. Thank you.”

Ultra Mono will be the follow-up to Joy as an Act of Resistance from 2018 following the release of their debut album, Brutalism, in 2017.

‘Ultra Mono’ will be released on September 25 2020

The tracklist for Ultra Mono is as follows:

1. War
2. Grounds
3. Mr. Motivator
4. Anxiety
5. Kill Them With Kindness
6. Model Village
7. Ne Touche Pas Moi (feat. Jehnny Beth)
8. Carcinogenic
9. Reigns
10. The Lover
11. A Hymn
12. Danke
