Improv jazz man Anthony Braxton in Bristol
One of the biggest names in improvisational jazz, Anthony Braxton, is performing a special one-off concert at The Lantern, Colston Hall in Bristol on 20 January.
In a real coup for the venue, Braxton will perform with his Diamond Curtain Wall Quartet in the intimate venue. He rarely visits the UK and this concert in Bristol is his only performance while in the country.
His work as a saxophonist and composer is widely acknowledged as groundbreaking, and his 1968 solo alto saxophone double LP ‘For Alto’ released in 1971 remains a jazz landmark, being the first full-length album for unaccompanied saxophone.
is needed now More than ever
Among the vast array of instruments Braxton utilises are the flute; the sopranino, soprano, C-Melody, F alto, E-flat alto, baritone, bass, and contrabass saxophones; and the E-flat, B-flat, and contrabass clarinets.
Tickets cost £26.50 including booking fee and are available from Colston Hall Box Office on www.colstonhall.org or 0844 887 1500.
