Inaugural Somerset International Festival of the Arts to take place in October
Since relocating from London to North Somerset over a decade ago, acclaimed violin soloists Simon and Liv-Marie Kodurand have been passionate about contributing their skills and love of music to the local community.
They are now co-artistic directors of a celebratory weekend of classical music, with schools and community education and outreach at its core – spearheading family workshops to concerts in care homes.
Initially set for launch in 2020 and subsequently delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the inaugural Somerset International Festival of the Arts will now take place across the weekend of October 6-8 with multiple events at St Andrew’s Church, Backwell.

The concerts, which are free for children under 12 when attending with a paying adult, include Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, an evening of Argentine tango music by candlelight, and a night in honour of the great movie soundtracks, hosted by The Bristol Ensemble.
“We believe the festival will have an enormously positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing of those involved, increasing social contact with others in their community, and creating an inspiring cultural legacy,” say Simon and Liv-Marie.
Following this year, there are plans to ensure the event takes place annually.
Somerset International Festival of the Arts is at St Andrew’s Church, Backwell from October 6-8. For the full lineup and tickets to all individual events, visit www.somersetfestivalarts.co.uk.
