Music / Bitch Please!
Interview: Delahay
“This EP is my first release and the start of a new musical narrative,” says Delahay, aka Sean Delahay, of his first EP The Discovery – but he’s always grown up around music. Sean has been a brass musician from the age of 13 and guitarist and singer-songwriter for most of his teenage years, as well as an avid dance music fan.
“The resurgence of disco and dance music over the last few years has heavily impacted my taste,” he says. “I love ambient house with disco flavours. Think Francis Inferno Orchestra or Palms Trax. It’s fun and representative of the music I want to play, whilst creating a much deeper disco sound.”
After sharing some love for those two names, I wonder about his other artistic inspirations. “Everyday life and the people that surround me,” he says. “There’s a lot of musical passion here in Bristol.”
is needed now More than ever
Delahay, who grew up in Stroud, moved to Bristol a year ago. After making trips up and down the motorway for about three years he says his entire life “emigrated to Bristol” – “moving to Bristol was the best decision I made for my music career.” I ask what Delahay likes most about the city. “That inclusive family feel in the music scene is so much of a turn-on to aspiring DJs,” he replies. “Everyone wants to help and support each other. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for that network. I’m really appreciative of The Love Below, Bitch Please, Soul Shake and Motion Bristol for their consistent support.”
Aside from Bristol, Delahay also has a strong connection to Switzerland. Signed by Schwarzmatt Music, he regularly hops on a plane to take his disco sound to Zurich. “Playing in Europe is so much fun and adds another dimension to my sound,” he says.
Bringing the chat back to Bristol, we talk about Sean’s EP launch and the record label that released it. “Triple Cooked, Triple Cooked, Triple Cooked!” Delahay says with a proud gleam across his face. “It all started with pinging a few tracks into their inbox, them taking an interest and well, the rest is history. As a record label, they have been great. They encouraged me to put an EP together and have backed me ever since. I’m really grateful to be part of the Triple Cooked family.”

Delahay tells me his favourite track from The Discovery EP is This Old Soul, but Delahay is bursting with energy and excited for the future. He’s already got his experimental hat on, thinking about jazz, R&B and electronica. Look out for further releases on Future Disco Records and King Street Sounds before the end of the year and download The Discovery EP here.
