Interview with Bridges

By Laura Williams  Tuesday Dec 9, 2014

They met in their hometown of Bridgwater, Somerset, but have since moved to and embraced Bristol. Now Bridges are upping their game with a new single and awesome accompanying video.

“Bristol has since become our second home,” said the rising band. “The people here are really supportive of new music and there is a wealth of talent amongst the gigging scene, which always seems to be hosting something new and exciting somewhere around the city. We feel we have definitely been welcomed to Bristol and are always excited to be playing here.”

Rife with excellently executed linear grooves, bellowing vocal harmonies and wonderful bass counter-melodies, Bridges say they have pinned their sound and style into an explosion that makes people move.

The group has just released their new single, ‘Ballgowns’, and are getting some great feedback. “With this track we decided not to rush anything”, they said, “carefully planning the specific production techniques we felt would embellish the song. To us the song is heavily inspired by people’s obsessions, but we’d rather listeners decide for themselves what the release means to them than go into more detail.”

This summer was spent playing a number of high profile festivals, including Glastonbury, Dot to Dot and 2000 Trees. “We headlined The Forest Stage on the last night of 2000 Trees.Every year at Glastonbury we talk about how we would love to be on a stage like John Peel or Pyramid. The crowds are mind-blowing so who wouldn’t want that?”

They’ve also played alongside Bristol pop sensation George Ezra, Kids in Glass Houses, Flagship, This Town Needs Guns, To Kill A King, BLEECH, Whales in Cubicles, Little Matador, M O N E Y, Story Books and Brother and Bones.

The release of Ballgowns (Nov 30) was Bridges first time teaming up with VGR Productions for a music video – and they’re thrilled with the result.

They said: “We wanted to create a cinematic partner to a track, which we plan to continue with lots of new ideas. We have lots planned for the new year and without saying too much, 2015 is looking to be very exciting for us.”
