Jazz/Blues Fest preview: Matt Schofield Trio

Lots of British people play the blues but very few make it their own. Pulling off the delicate balance between self-expression and playing true to the music’s roots takes technical skill and a whole heap of confidence and Manchester-born guitarist Matt Schofield has both. His scorching trio with local Hammond demon Jonny Henderson and drummer Evan Jenkins can equally evoke BB King’s economic passion or Elmore James’ scorching drive.

Festival programmer (and no mean guitarist) Denny Ilett says: ‘Simply one of the world’s best Blues guitarists today – full stop.’
