Launch your music career with BIMM Bristol

By Bristol24/7  Friday Nov 27, 2015

If your ultimate career goal is to work in the music industry, then you need to know about BIMM Bristol! Launched in 2008, the college offers a range of BA (Hons) degree courses for students committed to a career in the music industry. Their professional real-world training includes studies in Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals, Songwriting, Music Production, Music Industry Management and Event Management. Part of the wider BIMM Group which launched in 2001, the company now has colleges in six cities where music matters most – London, Berlin, Dublin, Brighton, Manchester and Bristol.

Exciting things have been happening at BIMM Bristol recently. The main campus in King Square has had a summer refurbishment, with extra teaching rooms and a brand new recording studio added to the already impressive list of professional facilities. On top of that, the college has launched a new site on Passage Street, overlooking the river and just a few minutes’ walk from Temple Meads Station. The building, which is shared with Global Radio’s Heart Bristol, runs across two floors and includes teaching and tutorial rooms, breakout spaces and a student common room.

BIMM Bristol is certainly no stranger to success – in fact, they can lay claim to one of the biggest selling artists of the decade – singer-songwriter George Ezra (pictured above). George joined BIMM Bristol in October 2011 to study Songwriting, and was signed to Colombia Records less than a year later. His debut album ‘Wanted On Voyage’ was the UK’s third best-selling album of 2014, shifting over one million copies in under a year. Other successful graduates include James Bay, Tom Odell, The Kooks, Izzy Bizu (pictured below), Jordan Cook of psychedelic glam-rock band, Telegram, and Jacob Manson and Adam Englefield from electro house duo, Blonde.

Current BIMM Bristol students who are making a name for themselves include blues singer, Sam Brockington, whose unique old school voice has seen him perform at festivals including Glastonbury, Leeds, Y Not, 2000trees and Dot to Dot. Plus Music Industry Management student, Luke Gardna, has had the rare privilege of performing his reggae and dub vibes from Arcadia’s 50-tonne spider not once, but twice – including at Glastonbury 2014 and in Queen’s Square alongside musical legends Roni Size and Leftfield.

The thing BIMM Bristol gives is ‘connectivity’. Students get direct access to regular collaborative experiences, including Masterclasses by special guests like Ian Matthews (Kasabian), Mike Joyce (The Smiths) and Frank Turner, end-of-term gigs, A&R panels, the annual BIMM album, work placements and internships. Students are guided by world-class tutors who’ve done everything from being Robbie Williams’s personal manager and drumming for Siouxsie Sioux, to founding The Cooper Temple Clause, playing bass in Ocean Colour Scene, and being named as Guitarist magazine’s ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year’.

Applications for BIMM Bristol’s 2016/17 degree courses are currently open, and the deadline for UCAS applications is 6pm Friday 15th January 2016. To apply, contact the BIMM Admissions team on 0117 980 7060, email admissions@bimm.co.uk or visit the website at www.bimm.co.uk/bristol
