Lauryn Hill, Grace Jones, Neneh Cherry and Idles first acts confirmed for Downs Festival 2019
Lauryn Hill has been revealed as the Downs Festival‘s first female headliner and first international headliner.

The Fugees founding member will be joined on the lineup by the legendary Jamaican-American singer, songwriter, producer, model and actress Grace Jones; and by Neneh Cherry, who has collaborated with Massive Attack’s 3D Robert Del Naja on her latest music.

Bristol’s very own Idles will also play their largest ever hometown show at the one-day festival on Saturday, August 31.
Idles frontman Joe Talbot said: “I can’t wait to play Downs festival. It’s a beautiful day run by beautiful people in the best city in the world. The attitude towards the bookings exemplifies the greater Bristol attitude towards music and celebrating people’s differences. Magic.”

Conal Dodds, co-founder of Downs Festival co-promoters Crosstown Concerts, said: “2018 was a great year and we’re taking it one step further for 2019.
“This is a lineup that really reflects Bristol, one of the city’s most up-and-coming bands in Idles, a style and musical icon in Grace Jones and one of the most renowned hip-hop stars of the last 20 years in Lauryn Hill.”
Previous headliners of the Downs Festival have been Massive Attack, Elbow, Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller.
The 2019 festival’s Avon Stage will be home to a dance and hip-hop lineup this year, headlined by Loyle Carner alongside Crazy P, Nightmares on Wax and High Contrast with a live band.
The Information Stage will return as a space where speakers will address issues affecting UK society; with it transforming into a music stage after dark featuring new musical talent.
The Children’s Area is also returning promising to be bigger and better than previous years, with activities, workshops, dancing and much more.
Tickets for the Downs one-day festival go on sale from Friday, March 8 priced at £55 plus booking fee. They will be available in person from 8am at Bristol Ticket Shop and on general release at 9am via thedownsbristol.com Seetickets.com, Gigantic.com Ticketmaster.co.uk and Bristolticketshop.co.uk. All tickets are subject to a levy which goes towards the upkeep of the Downs.
