Line-up for opening night of Bristol Harbour Festival announced

By Jess Connett  Wednesday Mar 22, 2017

Colston Hall have revealed the star-studded line-up for a special outdoor performance that will open the Bristol Harbour Festival and mark their 150th anniversary.

Some of the UK’s best known musicians will play at the gig, on Friday July 21 at Lloyd’s Amphitheatre. Roots Manuva, Horace Andy of Massive Attack fame, Dawn Penn, Loyle Carner and Congo Natty are just some of the names revealed.

The 20-piece Outlook Orchestra are the evening’s highlight. They will play a live mix of some of the biggest tracks heard on sound systems worldwide, in their own indomitable style. Assembled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Outlook Festival, they are led by award-winning composer Tommy Evans – the man behind both Submotion Orchestra and Gentleman’s Dub Club.

“We can’t wait to play Bristol in the summer!” Tommy said. “We’ve got a massive new extended line up and a set list that is going to go off! But what makes this gig so unique is that it specifically aims to recognise and acknowledge the huge contribution Bristol has made to the history of sound system culture and bass music in the UK. It’s going to be really, really special.”

Colston Hall’s head of programme, Todd Hall, said: “This celebratory 150th gig on the Harbourside will be one of the biggest celebrations of music in the city this year.

“We’re really delighted to be able to bring this celebration of sound system music to the city for a proper summer party.”

Tickets will go on sale at 10am on Friday March 24. For tickets and more information, visit www.colstonhall.org
